FAQ
Answers to the most common questions about riding with 4Chuan MTB in Western Sichuan, China.
Our expeditions are designed for experienced riders who are comfortable on natural, technical singletrack and can handle sustained climbs and descents at altitude. You do not need to be a professional — but you should be a confident mountain biker with solid trail experience. We offer different routes suited to advanced and expert levels.
A full-suspension trail or enduro bike with at least 130mm of travel is recommended. Bikes should be in excellent mechanical condition. Dropper posts, wide handlebars (760mm+) and quality brakes are strongly advised. We ride natural terrain with rocky sections and sustained descents — a proper enduro or trail bike will make your experience significantly better.
Yes, we can arrange bike rental from our local contacts. Rental bikes are high-quality trail and enduro bikes. Please contact us in advance so we can ensure the right size and specification is available for your trip.
All our packages include: airport pickup and drop-off, all ground transportation throughout the trip, accommodation throughout the riding days, all meals during the expedition, professional guiding, route planning and logistics, bike transport between riding locations, and emergency support.
Not included are: international flights to/from Chengdu or Chongqing, travel insurance (mandatory — see below), personal bike insurance, alcoholic beverages, personal gear and clothing, any activities outside the planned itinerary, and optional extensions.
Depending on the chosen adventure, you will ride at elevations between 2,500m and 4,200m. Our most demanding routes reach passes above 4,000m. Acclimatisation days are built into multi-day expeditions to help your body adjust. Riders with heart or respiratory conditions should consult a doctor before booking.
You should be in good cardiovascular health and capable of riding 4–8 hours per day in mountainous terrain. Altitude amplifies fatigue, so arriving in good physical condition makes a meaningful difference. We recommend regular cycling and cardio training in the months leading up to your trip.
Yes. China has very low crime rates and Western Sichuan is a welcoming region. Our team handles all logistics, so you're always with local guides who know the area well. China requires a visa for most nationalities — we will advise you on the current requirements when you book.
Travel insurance with mountain biking coverage and emergency medical evacuation is mandatory for all participants. Please ensure your policy explicitly covers mountain biking at altitude. We can recommend suitable providers upon booking.
Absolutely. We arrange all local transportation from your arrival airport (Chengdu or Chongqing) to the trailheads and back. Chengdu is served by direct flights from most major European, Asian and North American hubs.
We keep groups small and premium — typically 4 to 8 riders maximum. This allows for a more personal experience, better guiding and flexibility on the trails. We do not operate large tour groups.
Currently we are gathering interested riders for our first international expeditions. Join the waiting list with your details and preferred travel period, and we'll contact you personally once trips become available. Our first trips will be small, carefully organised and offered to waiting list members first.
